HOONAKKER, BORNOE, & CARAYON'S HUMAN FACTORS IN COMPUTER & INFORMATION SECURITY (HFCIS) PROJECT RESULTS PRESENTED AT HFES 53RD ANNUAL MEETING

CQPI's Lab for Safety Research Scientist Peter Hoonakker, former CQPI student Nis Bornoe, and CQPI Director Prof. Pascale Carayon's Human Factors in Computers & Information Safety (HFCIS) project results were presented at the HFES 53rd annual meeting on October 19th. Some of the results were recently outlined in a EurekAlert article - 'People are still the weakest link in computer and internet safety, study finds.'

WIEGMANN RECEIVES BEST PAPER AWARD

Industrial and System Engineering Associate Professor Doug Wiegmann received the award for best paper at the annual meeting of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators. Wiegmann coauthored the paper “Closing the loop in the system safety process: The Human Factors Intervention Matrix,” with Industrial Engineering Professor Scott Shappell from Clemson University. The award comes with a plaque and a $500 honorarium, which Wiegmann and Shappell donated back to the society to support scholarships for students to attend future meetings.

LEE ELECTED MEMBER OF HFES EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

Industrial and Systems Engineering Professor John D. Lee will begin his duties as a member of the HFES Executive Council at the HFES 53rd Annual Meeting in San Antonio, October 19th-23rd.

KARSH PREPARES REPORT FOR AGENCY FOR HEALTHCARE RESEARCH AND QUALITY

Professor Karsh prepared a report for AHRQ entitled "Clinical Practice Improvement and Redesign: How Change in Workflow Can Be Supported by Clinical Decision Support"


KARSH WILL PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL CLINICAL DECISION SUPPORT MEETING

Industrial and Systems Engineering Associate Professor Ben-Tzion Karsh has been invited by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health IT to participate in an expert meeting about the integration of clinical decision support into the national plans for electronic health records. The ONC is the principal federal entity charged with coordination of nationwide efforts to implement and use the most advanced health information technology and the electronic exchange of health information.


CARAYON NAMED FELLOW OF THE INTERNATIONAL ERGONOMICS ASSOCIATION

In recognition of Professor Carayon's distinguished contribution to the Human Factors and Ergonomics community, she has been named a fellow of the International Ergonomics Association.
