Handbook of Human Factors and Ergonomics in Health Care and Patient Safety - Second Edition

With the cooperation of one hundred authors and twenty-four reviewers worldwide, the first edition of this handbook was published in 2007. In fifty-one chapters, the first edition examined eight aspects of HFE in the realm of patient safety and health care:

  • Macroergonomics and Systems
  • Job and Organizational Design
  • Physical Ergonomics
  • Technology
  • Human Factors and Ergonomics Methodologies
  • Human Factors and Ergonomics Interventions
  • Specific Applications

In the second edition, Editor Pascale Carayon will expand on the first edition and include some topics that were not explored therein, such as work schedules. HFE in health care and patient safety is a rapidly changing field; the second edition investigates emerging fields of study, like telemedicine and trust in medical technology. New authors have been invited and there are comparatively more health care professionals among them, who have provided practical contributions from the "inside."
